Rowing Canada's coverage touched on the disappointment in a story entitled "Second, Again."
“We all believed right to the line that there was a possibility that we could do it,” said Mastracci, while simultaneously smiling and wiping away tears. “We are going to go back to the drawing board and keep training, that’s what we do. We don’t give up.”

Mike Gennaro '11 and his US straight four took the silver medal and, as the commentators said, "challenged the British bid for domination." (The British were the prohibitive favorites going into the race.) Results are posted at worldrowing.com.
Before the race, Gennaro posted on Facebook: "Racing in the A Final of the World Championships tomorrow against the Netherlands, Great Britain, Australia, Greece, and Canada. We race at 2:33pm local time, 8:33 EST. Live video can be found atwww.worldrowing.com. I don't really know how to explain my gratitude and appreciation towards everyone who supports my teammates and I and what we do. It's an extremely long year for such a short race, and I wouldn't be able to do this without everyone's support. I love my parents, siblings, family, my Syracuse family #OrangeNation, Prep family, teammates and coaches past and present, the WFR boys. Thank you so much."
